Tiefschwarz continues to dive deeper and deeper into beautiful abstraction with their Souvenir label, releasing music from ambitious producers encouraged to step far outside of the comfort zone. The label’s most recent offerings have displayed a brilliant confidence to providing magical sounds which face towards the future, yet function delightfully for adventurous DJs and music lovers alike. The labels latest offering comes in the form of a 4-track EP from American producer Kenneth Scott. Driving further away from the restrictions of the dancefloor, ‘The Future We Must Live In Now, Forever’ is the sound of an exciting new chapter for the Berlin based producer featuring 4 new pieces of gorgeous songwriting with creative freedom placed firmly at center stage.

Title track ‘The Future We Must Live In Now, Forever’ is a gorgeous slice of electronica. It’s driven by gently arpreggiated keys which shift shapes and intensities throughout the 8-minute duration. Saturated with atmospheric pads, the piece of music rolls through a flowing sense of dreamlike bliss, offering Kenneth’s vision of a future to be very excited about. An incredible sense of detail in the frequencies of each sound helps the track remain tantalizing for the ears and the mind - from the first tone to the final melancholic note.

‘Person-blocking Strategies’ follows the same atmospheric path, with an optimistic sense of peace in the overall mood. Freely floating atmospherics rest perfectly underneath a simple broken-beat rhythm structure, offering a slightly larger sense of movement. Channeling the audio equivalent of a break in the clouds after a heavy rain storm, ‘Blocking Strategies’ provides a sense of foot-tapping ambition for the listener. Carefully placed adjustments to the synth frequencies and additional sound FX help the listener remain alert, yet comfortable floating away with peace.

‘Köln’ continues the adventurous electronica directive with a lucid piece of work powered by loose, live drum programming and simple, well thought out melody placement. With each passing measure, more beautiful sounds develop, wrapping the listener in a comfortable bubble of sonic serenity. As if taking a morphine pill, ‘Ko Ln’ is overflowing with warm liquid embraces – allowing the ears to relax and the mind to zone out. Narcotic electronica.

Heading towards a slightly darker approach is ‘Invisible Boxes,’ Mr. Scott’s most floor friendly original on the EP. Whilst not a big room club anthem, we’re eager to hear any courageous DJ drop this one at the right moment. The broken beat rhythm swing offers just enough incentive to move the dancefloor, yet in keeping with the overall EP theme, the sounds and melodies take the listener into a place inspired by peace, prospect and encouragement. A clever balance between electro rhythms and melatonin induced hazes.

The first of two remixes comes courtesy of British electronic musician Steven Rutter (half of B12 and owner of FireScope Records). The remix of the title track continues in Steven Rutter’s brilliant production wizardry with a focus towards the electro tinted features of the music. Driven by a slammin’ rhythm pattern and upwards facing arps, the remix tweaks and twists the original into a much heavier late night affair.

Rounding out the EP is the most club friendly reworking on the project, with a stripped back techno reshape of ‘Invisible Boxes’ from Canadian techno prodigy Mike Shannon. Twitchy synth textures and crisp, punchy rhythms make this remix a surefire club weapon, and in usual Mike Shannon vibe – focus entirely on the most important elements of a track without any unnecessary filler.. only killer.
